Subject: Israel

My friend beleives that Israel is the only country which could stand longer in a conventional against the US than any other country on Earth. He is clearly "retarted" (as he called me for not thinking what he thought, lol). I have tried and tried again to tell him that Israel could not stand or even consider holding off the US and that countries such as France and Britain could defeat Israel (if Cruise missle theory works as suggested in the Israel vs Britain board then it would be over before it started, if you get my drift) in a long term war if not very short. I told him, all the u.s has to do is not help fund their military, then they'll colapse, blokade them and let their neighbours pick at them till they have no choice but to surrender, or destroy their airfields which there aren't many of. Yet he still thinks Israel could last longer than Germany, Britain, France, China, NK and Japan... is he crazy? or am I crazy? My friend claims his history teacher in gr.10 said that israel was by far the most advanced nation on earth (more advanced than US, Britain, France, Germany and japan) because they are always at war, and that the only country that can take them on is the u.s, and that the u.s would suffer and it's economy would be devistated in such a war..... I think that's a bowl o rubish

Israel is built for the ground they have a very weak navy... if let's say American invades from ground no navy. Then yes Israel would last the longest. Once you introduce the navy that is something else. Israel still has a developing navy and if America took that to their advantage, which they most likely would, of course they would win. But w/o navy, definitely Israel. Israel has the training, experience and manpower to give American a run for their money.

Fair enough, but how can you not use a navy? how did they get to Israel? This is what I'm trying to explain to my friend, the U.S wouldn't have to use it's army, at least until Israel doesn't have any air superiority (which they won't have since the very beggining of the war). Also, he doesn't seem to understand Israel will have no say in what happens in the war, they would just have to wait and see what the U.S does next and always be a few steps behind. As USN-MID explained, Israel is a conjested area, IMO it would just be like "shooting fish in a bowl"... If Israel was much bigger it would be a different story, but you can't do that because Israel's Military wouldn't look the same.

No Israel wouldn;t last the longest. It has no strategic depth, its defences are oriented to the East, the last direction that an Amrerican attack would come from. Fully mobilized the Israelis have about 600,000 tro0ps, 3500 tanks (1500 top of the line), 600 aircraft (350 top of the line). It is an impressive and powerful force that would cause the US miliary heavy causualites to take out. But they don;t have the ammo stocks for a long war, they don't have the terain to trade for time. the fighting would be bloody, but would take a few weeks at most. It would take longer than that to occupy China,even is no one oppsoed us.

in a full blown war with the US, israel won't last very long. True Israel's army is a defensive army, but they are trained to defend themself against arab nations with poor equipment; instead of that kind of agressor, they would have the most advanced army, with one of the best training (if not the best) in the world knocking on their doorstep. furthermore in this kind of conflict, I don't think arab's country will stand by and watch, they would use the opportunity to attack Israel at the same time. In this scenario Israel dson't stand a chance, even in the short terms since they would have to fight the 1° army in the world and every neighbourg they got simultaneously.....

Their fighters would not last very long facing US numbers (it would be even difficult to disperse them unoticed for long to keep them for some strike) and their territory is very small to maneouver and hide. And most of their weapons can be easily jammed by US.It would be like Iraqis in gulf war 1 even if they could inflict more casualties than iraqis did.They would have advantage of technology and skills compared to iraqis, but strong disavantage of US made weapons and small territory.

Israel is based on a militia system which gives a very high military participation ratio. Thus it is limited in it's ability to fight a long war by the need to man the civilian infrastructure at the same time; the same people who drive busses are also the people who fight and Israel can't have both at the same time. Thus Israel might do better in any given engagement. It could hardly last longer. Israel is a sprinter not a long-distance runner.
