Claret is actually my favourite shade of red (football reasons), but I put Maroon down so people wouldn?t confuse me with an RMP as the Provosts are known as the Red Caps- but I can understand the confusion from your side of the pond, as you probably know us PARA?s as Red?s rather than Maroons!

Having served in the Royal Marines (albeit for a shortish time) and the Royal Marines reserve I would have to say that of all of the military units worldwide, few if any are as well trained and motivated as the booties. Man for man their field craft, weapons handling/marksmanship, tactical knowledge (at all levels), toughness and ability to make sound decisions at the tactical level are second to none. My brother is still in the RM and he was in Iraq. He speaks very highly of the USMC, MFR, and Aussie forces he fought with.

the Royal Marine recruiting ads in magazines are black and white with big tough guys throwing, crying, and lieng collapsed on the ground. now right from the start the RM arent going to get anybody there just cause they want a job or change of life, or because they want glory, they are going to get guys willing to go through hell, yet still many get weeded out at commando course. The USMC are very well trained, and the best equipped, but man-on-man they are not as good as the RM.
