Britain can utilize the sovereign base areas at Akrotiri and Dhekelia in Cyprus which can support RAF and RN deployments.
"Both sides have nuke's and the means to deliver them subs. So yeah, great victory to be had here."
The Dolphin-class submarines with their Popeye nuclear-tipped missiles do not present the same kind of nuclear resolve provided by the Trident D5 and its MIRV. Israel is not capable of striking the UK with nuclear weapons in this respect.
"On the water, well yes the UK has a much bigger/more capable fleet, but certainly the israeli's fleet of subs (6 or so) would keep the UK surface fleet at distance"
The UK's SSN force, the largest in Europe, is more than able to tackle the SSK threat and the Type 22 Batch 2/Type 23 frigates are well-equipped to deal with submarine threats. The fleet would be able to strike at a standoff distance due to the SSN-equipped TLAM's.
"The F15 equiped with harpoons would render the Uk fleet useless/in grave danger"
Not if the F-15's are shot down by Tornado F3's out of Cyprus or other locations. The UK would maintain a very well-kept C4I network in this instance, and in the case of the RN, air defense would be layered. If the Sea Darts on the T42's did not deal with the threat, the Sea Wolf VLS would be able to take over, or the Phalanx/Goalkeepers as a last-ditch effort to defend against AShM's. Sentry AE1 and Sea King AEW7 platforms provide early warning to the Fleet concerning missile attacks. |
