Subject: Sino-Soviet war 1969 Soviet SUPERWEAPON
AchtungLagg    4/28/2004 6:10:44 PM
Ive heard rumors that during the 1969 border clash between the Soviets and Chinese the Soviets deterred the Chinese with some sort of superweapon used on Damansk Island, and that the island had been totally devastated. It wasnt a nuke, from what ive heard. I took the story with a grain of salt and dont believe it, but its nagged me enough to ask.

i dont know its really a very rare story, my dad heard it when he was in the red navy, he doesnt really believe it but hey kernel of truth you know? Maybe they just rounded up everyone on Damansk and shot them or maybe they sunk it somehow? hehe thats what im trying to find out.

I was thinking maybe they threatened some French soldiers with physical pain, and they self-destructed like little supernovas. But I jest;-) Sounds pretty far-fetched, Achtung. Only thing I could think of is a very clean and small tactical nuke that everyone decided to ignore to prevent WWIII, and even that is a conspiracy theory worthy of Mulder and Scully. If true, though, I'd be as interested as you to hear what it was.

The UK tested Anthrax on an island off the coast of Scotland and it was in quarantined for nearly 50 years. More on http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/scotland/1457035.stm Nice place for a picnic

A friend of mine that was doing his military service in the Soviet army at the time told me that there was a rumor in the army, that a large laser weapon had been used to great effect on swarming Chinese infantry somewhere on the Oussouri River. In any case, the bottom line is that the Chinese were using WWI-like tactics, leading to huge losses.
