Arditi, now I don?t claim to be a psychologist, I?m far from it. Yet I do now something about Psychopathology. Yet your behaviour does seem incredibly strange. You seem detached and obstructed by delusions of grandeur. ?There is nothing racist concerning any of my comments in relation to Brits. What is RACIST is your inability to accept any view that does not conform with your bloated version of British might. Again, you are a typical Brit and you just don't get it? Contradictions like that, where you have said your not a racist and then stipulated a characteristic of another nation which isn?t true. This surely could be diagnosed as a splitting of the mind, indeed, you got be a Schizophrenic. Further evidence can be seen here ?Slinging mud is easier and it absolves you from having to be intelligent? You seem blissfully unaware that 99% of your post have done exactly that, sling mud at Britain and the far more knowledgeable British posters on this board. What?s worrying, is that this doesn?t seem like banter, which exists between the French posters. No, it seems that you are a Delusional Schizophrenic, no doubt prone to cationic states. You seem very detached on reality ?why don't you and your contemporaries get the hell out of Ireland. But then again, the way the Irish economy has exploded, I suspect you Brits will be emigrating there in droves very soon? As that comment seems to prove. You seem to be unaware of the several hundred years of Irish history which determine factors, and why partition took place in 1921 and indeed, why Britain isn?t in Ireland, but in Britain itself. In the partitioned state of Northern Ireland. I should no, as I?m an expert on this particular field of history. Feel free to make more comments and I?ll enjoy taking them apart. You mention genocide. Quite clearly you have little knowledge about the Great Famine in Ireland. I doubt whether your aware of the problems of having a mono-crop and that, the Western Irish counties suffered a mild famine every year, as a potato can only keep for 9 months. Still, you know little on anything else, so why should you know anything about this? I stand behind my contention: The British Army in Ireland has behaved as terrorists. The IRA -branded as terrorists- are the true patriots Having just read this, I am extremely, f******ly annoyed beyond your stupidly little minds wildest comprehension. How dare you say that, how f****** dare you. You are an absolute disgrace and a despicable human being. I wish every conceivable illness on you, as you are nothing but a cancer to this planet.

-I quite agree with you Nathan, The UK has also polarised much of it's manufacturing into niche markets in High-Tech sectors located mainly in Silicon Glen and the M4 Corridor. Couac, I participated quite substantially to the debate in question if you would care to look. It did not polarise into an "armistice" but you excusing the lack of French power projection in naval terms for the fact that you have naval stations dotted around the globe that can't hope to compete with naval-based projection power and also the inexcusable fact you have fewer surface assets. "Then about projection power, without considering the gulf war 2 (because we never wished to go there for Good/Bad reasons), I don?t remember that England had been more has done better than France with her projections abilities." -The Falklands War springs to mind. On economies the sources I have are international ones from globally respected organisations and ones governments use anyway like the IMF and the World Bank as well as official government departments, on economic future terms, I still believe the UK is better placed to outpace any other European country as even machine tooling in high tech sectors for export cannot be relied upon entirely and was best covered in the through analysis on the UK economy several posts ago. Arditi-Being racist includes passing off an entire nation as idiots when we have contributed more to global society and western civilisation today than any nation on Earth by a colossal margin. "Bloated version of British might" -YOU get real as I said before your inability to back up anything you have said contradicts your own argument and as I said before if you claim my opinions are inertial, then dispute them with facts not your opinions. -You have not posted a single factual comment on this board and you claim that I cannot substantiate my arguments! Also look up Racism, I think you will find I have based any of my posts on the UK as being founded on the fact that we are racially superior, contrary to the fact that you have just braded an entire nation as being stupid and compelled to violence. "If you are so concerned about racism and genocide, why don't you and your contemporaries get the hell out of Ireland? But then again, the way the Irish economy has exploded, I suspect you Brits will be emigrating there in droves very soon" -Racism aside, I am a Roman Catholic and I believe that the British Army are defending the democratic decision by the majority of Northern Irish citizens and the fact that the UK has pulled out of counties that wish to be part of a Republic. Thanks to the great efforts of Eire and the UK there is a negligible Army presence in Ulster coupled with peace and you only have to look at Belfast now compared with 20 years ago, it is thriving. As far as the IRA being patriots, I?m sure the parents of the children murdered in Omaha, including Catholics will agree wholeheartedly with your disgusting rants, the British Army has demonstrated the fact that it is the best in the world by preventing a civil war and returning the nation to peace using revolutionary methods that have been copied the world over. The Irish republic is only maintaining its economic growth by committing to colossal income tax levels to minimise taxes on Commerce and Industry, it could never hope to rival the economic prowess of the UK.

I?d recommend R.F. Foster Modern Ireland 1600-1972, his book guided me through my University education. As it provides one of the best over views I?ve seen. But I doubt whether Arditi has the capacity to read a book with out any pictures.

Once again Ad, you've risen to the occasion with abuse and name calling - the last refuge of the terminally ignorant.

There is only ONE Ireland and that encompasses the whole Island. Bits of earth on the Island of Ireland claimed by other parties are nevertheless still Ireland. I did spend some time in the Emerald Isle and forged many friendships among Irish Catholics. In fact, I will be in Dublin in September by way of London and Milan.

?the last refuge of the terminally ignorant? No you are the ignorant one. Any support for the IRA is not only makes you a despicable person, but also completely ignorant of how offensive such blatant support of a terrorist organisation, that has killed innocent pub revellers in my city, 30 years ago this coming November, is to any British person. You are a terrible human being. There is no other way to describe you. Who else would not think twice about supporting a group that in 1998, killed an eight month old child, in a pram. Please, go away. You clearly lack any sort of knowledge about Ireland, despite you claims to have lived there. By the use of Catholic, you have clearly stressed your racial prejudice against none-Catholics. This is probably why you sprout such nonsense about Britain. As at the end of the day, you?re a racist little bigot, that can?t stand a none Catholic nation.

-I will certainly no longer be replying to any of Arditi's quite unacceptable and provocative posts, I believe my points on the subject have been made quite clear.

Point taken. But may I point out that such support for the IRA and such antagonistic views cannot be appreciated. I find it hard that you are able to allow Arditi?s comments to continue, as they are of no discussion value. They are simply here to aggravate British posters. Hence the continual denouncing of the British economy, military and the support for an organisation that has caused unimaginable grief and anguish, inside Britain. He has touched a nerve, for obvious reasons. How would American posters feel, particularly New York posters, if he was to support Al Queada? They?d be outraged, as I am. I will try and keep my temper, but every person has there limits.

RM-Nod    Arditi - Please respond to this   5/15/2004 7:54:59 AM
Please expand on a few things for me here, thankyou. 1-You support the IRA, however the majority in northern Ireland wish to remain a part of Britain. Given this then how can any sort of terrorist action (I'll come to the terrorist part later) be justifiable and indeed how can any action that is aimed at re-unification without majority support be justifiable? 2-You claim that the IRA were not terrorists. This is contary to what the facts say, the IRA have carried out bombings and kidnappings of civilians with the express purpose of causing fear in the civilian population that they hope would sway the government. This is the definition of terrorism. How can the IRA be described as anything other than this? 3-The British army in Ireland has behaved as terrorist. How so? All actions taken in Ireland by UK forces has always been in accordance with the law and civilians have never been targeted, this method has cost the lives of many British service men and women. Can you give me any occasion in which a British man or woman has acted, upon orders from there superiors, in a manner fitting that of a terrorist? 4-The monarchy is a dellusion of power. Simply can you prove this view for me? 5-You claim Britain is not powerful. Please can you expand on this and post facts, figures etc to back it up thankyou. If you truley believe what you say and it is not pointless Brit bashing then you must have reasons you believe it. If so you will have no difficulty in answering the above questions using facts. Thankyou for you time.

Rule: "The Irish republic is only maintaining its economic growth by committing to colossal income tax levels to minimise taxes on Commerce and Industry, it could never hope to rival the economic prowess of the UK." Incorrect. Ireland has one of, if not the lowest tax reigemes in the EU. Our income-tax rate is 20% (lower band) and 42% (upper band). People on the minimum wage don't pay income tax at all. To say that we pay higher taxes so that US corporations pay less is incorrect. We pay less taxes than most overall 'cos we believe in small government. As our Tainiste (deputy prime minister) said: "we're closer to boston than berlin"

civvystreet    The Irish question/Germany   5/15/2004 9:24:56 AM
Aren't "freedom struggles" an anachronism in modern, democratic societies. I don't understand why an Irishman in Ulster would want to break from GB, when he can exercise his franchise and vote for a autonomous form of governance much as the Scots have done. Is all that republicanism worth the strife and economic doldrums of years past? As far as Germany is concerned, the emergence of coutries such as Poland, Czech rep. etc. as manufacturing hubs- producing high quality products will be a bitter pill-especially since the very same EU will enable companies to shift operations. Soon GNP vs GDP will be the true measure of economic standing.

-I was simply quoting from an interview with a prominent Irish economist on Newsnight Scotland who said that the Irish economy was able to grow extensively in the 1990's by adopting the said methods of taxation to attract foreign investment, it's high level of external trade is signalled by a high share of combined exports and imports of goods to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which was just under 100% in 2003. Arditi aught to check his facts, the Irish economy only grew at 1.5% in 2003 and inflation is at 3.5% it is critically important to note that the use of the GDP measure may not give the most an accurate indication of living standards for Ireland. GDP measures the total output produced by factors of production located in the Irish economy. Therefore it includes the substantial profits made by foreign multinationals, much of which is repatriated. Gross National Product (GNP) adjusts for these repatriations and may give a better indication of income and hence living standards for the Irish case. The difference between the two output measures is stark in the Irish case with GNP accounting for just 83% of GDP in 2003.
