No, not the English, a coalition of Europeans. Without the Prussians, the Austrians, the Russians... no victory for the rest of Europe against the French.

It has never been english who kicked French ass in 1800, they just didnt have any chance to defeat napoleon without the other Europeans countries help. Before the retreat of Russia, the "grande armee" had around 1 million soldiers, and that represented around 4 or 5 times the British army. And the Russia campaign cant be really considered as a ful defeat, because to win the war, Russians have burned the 3/4 of their farms .. and they have lost the half of their population after, so a such hight cost cant really be counted as a victory for the Russian. And Napoleon during the Italy campaign has won more battles than any other generals in history. So to call Napoleonic wars like a total defeat is just a no-sence.

If you are at war with an enemy, no cost is too great. It obviously worked as the Germans committed a similar folly the next century.

Nope. Then by your definiton russkies lost "the great patriotic" too, and just about every war they fought. It only show that they are dedicated, and tough. In Frances bush wars bach where and when.. Well(up to midlle ages on to say 1700' ies or so I was thinking) everybody burned the crops and stuff to make it unbearable for the enemy to continiue campaign. They were not people, just serfs whose livelyhood they destroyed... Hardly worth thinking in field of honour. And it still is a good way to conduct war even now. As I'm writing this it is about -15 outside and windy and snowing. Tents would be good help outside, but houses would be better. No Houses you haveto live in tents and that raises all kinds of disscomforts for the poor bastard in them. I think finns have about the worst record. Three wars only one won was the interior one. Winter war. Loss in overtime. finns lost say 20000 men russkies maybe 200000. but its the W that counts. Continuation war. '41-44 lost around 600000, no good figures available from USSR. but definately over 200000 again.(figures wary from about 120000-600000) But the "conservative" view is the around 200000. Hmm Swedes. They DID conquer Finland around early 1200. Ruskkies (Novgorod) beat them in late 1200'ies. They managed to get some more area in 1323. And in 1595, and awfully lot from germany in 1648, and some more from poland and russia 1620'ies. (Estonia, and stuff) BUT then Thy just got teir asses kicked. 1720ies they lost whole of finland, but weren given it back. again in 1740ies, and in 1700' late(1780 or so if recollection serves) and for good in 1809. After which they have wisely kept their noses out of everybody elses business. And.. Well.. As Sweden really was not Sweden untill 1520'ies, earlier victories might have to be deleted from the record. (from early 1300up to that point they were pretty much under Danish thumb.)

In regards to Voila, no the war of the Spanish succession wasn’t a draw, England (as this was prior to the act of union with Scotland in 1707), defeated al larger Franco-Bavarian force at Blenhiem. Take a look at the terms of the treaty of Utrecht, then tell me if you think France drew. The seven years war was a total defeat, climaxing at the fall of Quebec in 1759. You lost the battle of the Nile in 1798. As far as the Peninsular wars go, Britain certainly did beat the French. If you examine each nations locale, then Britain moved an army, pushed Soult back from Oporto in 1809 all the way through Spain, inflicting serious defeats at Salamanca and Vitoria for an example, before invading Southern France in 1814 and defeating them at Toulouse. The forces Britain faced in Portugal and Spain were indeed the cream of the French army. Would Britain facing the entire Napoleonic army have stopped Britain from marching into Paris? Its debatable. However would the Austrians have been able to re-build their entire army with out Britain? No. However you can only comment on the battles in which a British army fought a French won. Name me a French victory. The only battle that came close to a French victory was the retreat to Corunna in 1809, an army under Sir John Moore. And you can hardly call that a French victory, as the British army escaped. After Sir Arthur hit the Iberian Peninsular, you cannot name a single French victory. In the 100-day campaign, Britain fought two battles, Quatre Bras and Waterloo. It is fair to say that the French lost both. You lost the Franco-Prussian war. You were saved from total defeat by the BEF in 1914 at Marne, in one of the most brilliant displays of how superior troops counts tenfold. Manoury’s 6th French army and Fochs 9th army would have been split in half, had it not been for the BEF at the allied centre, which took the brunt of the German assault, rather than the French 5th army. You certainly lost your stake in Indo-China. Your forces were ripped apart in the battle of the Sedan 1940. However, despite numerous defeats, I wouldn’t say that France has the worst record. Its not good, yet Napoleon did smash continental Europe (Austerlitz being a prime example in 1805), before Britain intervened. In a similar fashion to how Louis the XIV smashed Europe before Britain intervened.

France 40 was only a campaign, a part of the WW2. If France lost this campaign she didn't lost the war and was one of the victors.

France was a liberated nation. The Free French army was nothing more than a political token force, which had no military significance on the outcome of the second world war. There were more French in the Nord SS division, by far than in the Free French army. So I wouldn’t say France was a victor at all. As you won nothing. It was British, American and Canadian troops that were victorious in France.

the french surenderd and were ocupied. that's it. they lost. in 44 they were libirated. they then cobbled an army together and did some fighting. to say they didn't loose is a very daft claim. "France 40 was only a campaign, a part of the WW2. If France lost this campaign she didn't lost the war and was one of the victors" then you must also conceed that they lost... if im not misstaken, a large amout of france sided with the Germans... they lost. so what's it going to be?

<> They lost a campaign, not the war, it is not the same thing, and in 45 the French were considered as one of the victors.

Sorry, the French lost WWII. The Free French contributions after the fall of France were negligible and really did not contribute to the western allies (the UK and US) winning the war. France surrendered in June, 1940 and there's no getting around that.
