Subject: What's your 20....?
Godofgamblers    3/18/2008 5:52:44 AM
I thought I would come up with a thread where we aren't competing or beating each other up for a change (though no fear, I'm sure it will devolve into a flamewar soon enough hehe just kidding).

Tell me where you are now, what country, what city, where do you post from? Office? Home? At what time do you post?

What are you doing in your life right now? What are your immediate plans and long term plans?

Are you in the military? Currently serving?

Tell us about it.

Nasty German Idiot       3/18/2008 6:53:36 AM
Im currently doing my posts from the Hessian State Archive in Marburg, where im doing a 2 month practical seminar which includes preparing an exibition about the "Reichskristallnacht 1938" - the night when the synagogues were burned and pillaged in Germany.  If anyone here is able to understand German documents, here are some of the most important I found during my research: (just to give you an idea:) Reichsprogromnach 1938 online exibition

My work is to go through the Piles of documents from that time and filter and evaluate the most important ones, which are than digitalized and put online.

My future plans are to finish my studies in history and anglistics next year and to get one of the rare seats in an Archive, preferably a military one.

Right now I'm at home, in Turkey/Istanbul....it's 18 30 and I have an handball match at 20:00.
I'm in 11th grade right now and I have to get grades but I don't....my long term plan is to get rich by trade or be a politician.
I'm 17 if I go to university(I probably will) I will in the military for 6 months like 7-8 years later depending on the time I graduate....if no universtiy it'll be 3 years later but I doubt that.

local: Peterborough ONT, Canada [seems to have become my home away from home].

job: none, left the lads at CSR couple of months ago [my previous occupation/hobby].

-thus I have finally retired at the ripe old age of fifty something [or is it sixty?]

spend my time reading [military history of course, anything else would be blasphemy] with an ale in hand [often something from the vintage collection... got a fuller's 1998 at the mo'], fortunate enough to have access to tons of scholarly journals now too [whatever that means], the son goes to the Uni here in peterborough and as such has access to all sorts of these articles.

other spare time spent with my brother building [also residing in Canada] or anything that amuses me out of doors

post on here whenever

immediate plans - read more books

long term plans - somehow use knowledge gained from reading said books and journals.

if you can't tell already, i've become quite the book worm. [who'd have thought... setting boots down in numerous places in the world, getting into all sorts of trouble, and i end up reading books]

not much left to tell, sad life really, but i like it.

Cosily esconced in my plush leather seat in a law firm, where I try to drum up new business in the marketing department.

In my 40s, I spend my free time teaching my son how to throw a ball, and watching the various singing and ballet recitals of my daughter.

Otherwise, I work out once a day, try to read a book every so often, and try to enjoy life as best I can.

I am starting to dream of traveling again.... I would like to explore China and maybe make a trip to France once again....

I live in Jakarta, Indonesia.

...thumbs up GoG, two thumbs way up. sorry but that really made me laugh [not sure why, old age or something], but i do love the way you just answered your own thread so nonchalantly as if you were a different person to the one that started the thread. good job.

Served as a merchant marine cadet and later as a tanker officer.  Worked in most facets of the oil and chemical industry in logistics, chartering, refinery operations, supply and trading.

For work and pleasure been traveling a lot in the Far East last couple of years.

Other than that I read alot of books, play a lot of PC games, and spend too much time on the internet and watching TV.

Currently in Illinois, but hope to relocate to somewhere else in next couple of years.

Right now I'm avoiding working on my legal writing paper, due next Monday at the University of Pittsburgh where i'm currently in law school.  I did ROTC there through my undergrad (for those who may be unfamiliar its basically training for the Army through your years of college and then when you graduate they commission you same as the Academy folks but with the advantage of living in dorms and frat houses the last four years rather than West Point barracks!), and then decided to become one of those Army lawyers everone hates, so I got my entry time delayed for the next couple years until I either graduate and enter the JAG corps or fail out and lead a tank platoon or do wherever else the Army needs me to do!

Right now I'm concentrating on NOT failing out, working out with the Cadets at the ROTC battalion, playing on our schools paintball team, getting married this summer and making sure the Colonel doesn't catch me with with brand new goatee and hippie hair!  (which would be easier if I didn't keep working out at the ROTC gym, but I know him and the other cadre's routine well enough to evade detection so far!)
