Subject: Handle names
bob the brit    2/3/2008 11:38:11 PM
well, dropbear had his thread on getting to know fellow SP'ers, but I'm curious about handles/usernames... enlighten us all as to what your username means... if the post reaches 20, maybe i'll tell you my story [not that it's that interesting].

Mine is easy.  Engineer who works within the Artillery field, hence Arty + Engineer.  Cunning or what?

Handle was inspired by the local tv commercials of the drink of choice of real men from Qld.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that we get alot of female European backpackers down here too.

Herald12345    Herald is based......    2/4/2008 6:51:13 AM
...................on what a herald did in the medieval era.

link hired messenger, sometimes petty ambassador, part hired technician or adviser (especially in the granting of recognizable "arms" to knights- a crude form of IFF), part umpire at war games, always a minor hireling to some powerful lord: it was he, who supplied some technical knowledge on the history of arms and the physical rules of warfare. That sort of job description describes what I do in a very vague way.

I have a perhaps unhealthy interest in burning things and sharp objects.

Ehran       2/4/2008 2:27:37 PM
ehran was the name of a dungons and dragons character i was quite fond of.  when the campaign died i started using the name on the internet and in mmorpg's so that if you saw the name somewhere you could recognize it was me most likely.

Chem: I have an interest in Chemistry and that is the subject I study, C is also my first initial. A, and J are my middle initials and B is surname initial. The 00 part was just a random number thing I add it is usually 00 or 24.

Smitty is a play on my surname, and 237 was my radio/serial number at the police agency where I was formerly employed for thirteen years.

My little caret is always upright and accompanied by two.  The package truly appreciates its proximity to "v".  Oh *that* handle.  Nevermind.  </emily_litella>

longrifle    longrifle   2/5/2008 1:11:12 AM
It has sort of a double meaning to me:

1) I like American colonial era frontier history, Daniel Boone, etc. (although, oddly enough, I've never taken up the black powder hobby);

2) I'm a "longrifleman" on my department's tactical team.
