That looks very much like a Boys Anti-tank rifle, which will be in .55" rather than .50", so unless it's been rechambered, loading it with BMG ammo may be... unwise.
That said, google-fu tells me that .55" is based on a BMG case. It might fit, it might work, but if I had to try it it would be from behind a thick wall with a bit of string. (Boys round is 13.9x99, BMG is 12.7x99.)

Wow, that's a bit of luck.  Boy's for sure, but modified (IMUH).  Please, update once you guage and find a long enough piece of string.

For anyone who is interested the tube gaged at 0.557" So some wear but nothing extreme.  A borescope of teh tube revealed nothing of concern either, so its definitely "Shootable".  However as FK points out putting modern 0.50" Cal ammo through it would be "Unwise" to say the least!!!!!

Odds are, a .50 BMG wouldn't chamber anyway.  Here's a cartridge comparison:

The Boys is 13.9x99B and the 50 BMG is 12.7x99.  The .50 has a longer case.
