Basically US Army is buying M2 QCB from Fabrique Nationale. The basically design of M2HB is so good, that there is still no other design to surpass it almost one century later. M2HB is selective fire weapon and electronic marksman system can be integrated into it as well. Anyway, JMB is still the genius of gun design of all time.

AHOY, the M2 dose not have the most important part of any system of today, the computer chip. Everything has to have a computer chip. The generals most know how many rounds have been fired by the weapons in fighting hole number X. They most be able to fly along viewing from the tip cam of some 20mm round reconnoitering the trajectory for death ray fields. G-day!

While it is obvious that the regular troops prefer the higher rate of the old 'Ma Deuce" to the greater accuracy of the XM312, how do the light infantry types who have to carry all their weapons like the special forces and mountain troops feel about it?

Also, would there be any advantage if the XM312 was used to replace some of the 7.62mm support weapons instead of as a .50cal replacement?

i don't think troops are fielding the m2 as a infantry protable system now days, I think that they are all vehicle mounted. the use of the m2 as a heavy machinegun like in ww2 was replaced with the m60/m240 since the 30 browning was replaced with the m249. the big problem for infantry carrying m2 is not the weapon it self but carrying enough ammo to make it effective.
