I've got one of these fitted with a lasermax sight (replaces the regular buffer with a buffer containing a laser projector) and houge grips and it really is an amazing gun and its slightly smaller size makes it good for concealed carry (though wouldn't be as big an issue for the military).  they're realiable, lightweight with good power and combined with a laser can be brought to bear very quickly.

Sure.  It's great with hollowpoint ammo.  So are some of the 9mm loadings.  If you're limited to FMJ nothing less than .45 please.

Can you break down the differences for me, why's it superior (I ask because I don't know much about glocks)?

He probably just likes the 9mm G19 over the .40 G23.  Some folks think the .40 seems a little "snappy."

The Glock is simply an idiot proof gun (as long as you're at least a safe idiot).  There are no external safeties or decockers to mess with.  All you have to do is pull the trigger.  Reliability is also outstanding.  When I attended the police academy back in 1994, most of the other people in my class were armed with double action Smith and Wesson automatics.  The Smiths jammed more often, and they always had to decock after firing..........not doing so was dangerous and ran the risk of an accidental discharge if the weapon was not handled properly.

I have heard that the Glocks being tested by the military have been fitted with an external safety, but it is largely superfulous and from the pictures I've seen of it the safety does not appear to be a prominent feature.  As long as you don't pull the trigger the weapon will not fire, and it takes a deliberate trigger pull to fire the weapon.  Keeping the finger off the trigger is a training issue.  The Glock may not be as accurate as a single action M1911, but it is as the very least as accurate as the other double action automatics in the running.

As far as the ammo goes, the point about FMJ ammo is well taken.  I've heard that the military is considering adopting the Glock in either .40 caliber or .45 GAP.  The grip on most .45 ACP double stacked pistols is simply too big for many shooters with small hands to comfortably hold.  Still, ball ammo is woefully inadequate in comparison to hollow point ammo.

What about the shape of the .40 s&w FMJ what with the flattened nose and all?  wouldn't the flat nose cause more damage than a rounded nose as it could crush more than simply slip thorugh the target?
