Hey Gents,

I appreciate your responses which I've been monitoring periodically and I'll continue the discussion as soon as I'm able. Not enough hours in a day...:(

Thanks Again

I've never shot anyone, only game (a lot of it man-sized or larger; deer, doe deer, boar, roebuck, buffalo, kudu, bushbuck..).  All of this was with rifles, from a .243 Win to fairly high-powered rifles (7mm Rem. Mag, .300 Win Mag) and some BFGs (a .375 Win and a .416 Weatherby Mag).  Most shots were around the front shoulder/chest area.

My experience is that;

a- The only thing I've ever seen get "blown back" movie style was a Duiker (tiny African deer, looks like bambi) shot with a .375 at fairly short range (50-60 yards).  Then again, that's about 2000 ft/lbs on a 30 pound animal, and it got both shoulder blades.  I cant imagine a pistol round having that sort of effect on anything even close to man-sized.
b- You never know what's goign to happen.  Some go down and dont get up, some take off at high speed, some look startled but didnt inmediatelly move much, some fell, ran a few yards then, then fell again.
c- Other than that, the only times I've seen anything tumble spectacularly was when it was running already - more like a trip-and-fall than getting blown back by the impact.
d- If aware/excited, some can take an *incredible* amount of damage and keep going.  It seems impossible once you get to them - how the hell did they move at all, let alone run several miles. I guess it's a testament to the power of adrenaline.

Heart,

This was a great thread for talking about what bullets do when they hit people or things.
No more 5.56 mm v. 7.62 nonsense.
