it has been announced that the US101, an aircraft developed by Westland (of the UK) and Agusta (Italy), and now with significant American input (aprox 60%)by Lockheed Martin is to be selected as Marine1.
This aircraft was chosen over Skorsky's H-92, and designed to replace the old VH60.
The new helicopter offers much improvement over the olderhelicopter, with increased range, from 100 to 350miles, increasing the number of passengers from 10-14, and increasing payload and capabilities of the president.
The US-101 was chosen over the H-92 for a number of reasons, including better size and capalabilites, as well as reduced cost and reduced development liabilities.
And before anyone says anything about buying European, and the war, etc, the European compenents are Built in Italy and UK, two of the strongest supporters of the War! |
