March 27, 2005: The ?Blue to Green? program, which offered U.S. Air Force personnel, who were being laid off, easy transfers to similar jobs in the U.S. Army, did not attract many takers. So far, only about sixty airmen have made the switch to the army, out of about 10,000 who were eligible. The air force is attracting a record number of recruits, it being a much more comfortable organization to serve in than the army. The air force personnel being laid off were entering a civilian economy that has seen growing employment for over a year, and employers are very eager to hire former military people. The airmen note that many non-combat army troops are exposed to combat in Iraq. That is not popular with air force personnel, where, traditionally, only a few percent of the force (the pilots and aircrews), ever get exposed to enemy fire. As a result, the air force does not create a "warrior mentality" among all of its troops.
Vapid--Ahhhh...No! Whoever wrote this needs to re-look at their info. Actually USAF forces are engaging the enemy more than this article would have you believe.
Security Forces Personnel, Logistics Personnel (Trans), and some other smaller orgs (i.e. Combat Controllers/Pararescue) also see plenty of combat.
In-fact (without giving away too much of the WHY?), someone should write about how much more effective USAF/SF & USAF/LRS personnel have been at conducting CONVOY duties vs all other branches.
