Tattoos are a hard issue b/c in CONUS nobody really notices them anymore unless they represents some obviously hateful or criminal sentiment.Outside of that it is simply a matter of uniformity to keep them off any body part that is normally exposed while in uniforms such as hands, face, neck. Keep within those parameters and no one on active duty really risked anything so long as they were good at their job and otherwise STRAC.

Now, with another Democrat admin pushing to cripple the military recruiters are being forced to accept persons who openly exhibit aberrant behavior while rejecting completely suitable but over-inked recruits. The end-result will be that the more masculine, hard-charging, male aspect of the military will be slowly neutered until it consists of almost completely protected-class personnel such as women/minority/gay/etc. and heterosexual men in general and white males in specific will be more the exception than the rule despite America having a 70% Caucasian population. An argument could be made that there is an effort to remove straight men in general and straight white men more specifically from the ranks; there are plenty of reasons an enemy inside America would want this, the foremost being that the more "diverse" the military is the less effectively it will fight. Many would argue this but the truth will be born out if this status quo remains.

Tattoos often acted as a means of bonding and unity among members of a military unit. The fact that it was mostly male made it easy for all to find common ground and fostered high morale when whole platoons got a unit tattoo. Making rules that attack every aspect of that morale can only have a negative effect.

Personally, i think that- among the high-up muckity-mucks- that is the whole point.
