Because of their unique 1man dictatorship system, North Korea can't avoid being outcast in international society.
With extreme famine and shortage of food, and with outdated military equipments, they can't open their doors to capitalism nor begin a war.
One of biggest reason is, to improvise on their weak military power they are trying to develope a nuclear weapons. The next reason is to get help from international society they are using nuclear weapon as a threat.
Experts have different opinions on how many nuclear weapons that North Korea has but most reasonable opinion is that North korea has around 2 nuclear weapons. They were concentrating on nuclear weapon development since 1980s. We are now finding out that the North Korea was purchursing
plutonium in large volumes which is main ingredient for nuclear weapon.
There is even a news that United States their policy of North Korean nuclear problem from Preventing them from making more to preventing them from exporting them.
Solutions for North Korean nuclear problem
Officially there are about 5 opinions that are reasonable.
1. North Korea gives up on nuclear weapons.
This is difficult but possible. North korea giving up nuclear weapon on their own.
2. economical blockade.
We can pressure North Korea by preventing them importing necessities of life through strong economical blockade. Obviously stop sending food supply and economical pressure can make North Korea to give up on nuclear weapons.
3. Negotiation between United States and North Korea
Negotiation between North Korea and United States. This would be best way to solve the problem but the difference in their stands are the problem.
4. Multiple country negotiation
Korea United States Russia Japan China and North Korea. 6 Countries who have biggest stakes in korean peninsula should gather around for peace treaty and way to solve the problem. For now this is the most reasonable and most probable way to solve the North Korean nuclear problem.
5. militeristic solution
This would be the most horrible way to solve the problem. In 1994, hardliners in Clinton administration once suggested this.
