Subject: germany aquiring nuclear weapons?
Crass Spektakel    1/26/2006 2:45:09 AM
Exminister of defence Scholz started to discuss about nuclear arms for german forces. If the NATO allies do not renew and deepen their nuclear treaties to defend germany from WMD then germany will start an own nuclear arms program.

Thats the second time this idea has been discussed. In the early Seventies the nuclear scenario in europe changed dramatically with increasing sowjet short- and medium-range nuclear arms. Germany then doubted that the US would stand up to defend germany from a limited nuclear assault from the sowjets against only germany. Talks back then went as far as talking about prices for US and french nuclear arms. In the end the US increased its nuclear presence in germany and treaties.

So most likely we will not see german nuclear arms but extended treaties.
