Subject: AESA question
mabie    1/16/2011 8:49:23 AM
With pre-AESA radars, the conventional wisdom is that a larger dish/array results in a longer detection range. Is this still the case with AESA technology? Since the individual T/R module acts as a self-contained radar system, does the number of modules really impact detection range? Could an AESA with 1500 T/R modules detect targets significantly farther away than an AESA with 1000 T/R modules assuming the same power levels for each T/R module?

Alot depends on the noise floor of the individual modules and the system in general.
