Subject: Missles into Israel
Wayneoh    3/19/2008 2:42:24 PM
How come Israel cannot seem to pinpoint the exact origin of the missles being launched by the Palestinian terrorists quick enough for effective counter-measures (that is to say, blowing them to hell)? I know that we have systems to track & back track artillery shells (was it "Hellfinder"?) There has to be way to do this using radar/UAV's Anyone? Bueller?

Are you thinking of the TPQ-37 Firefinder... Anyway, the Hamas SOP is to launch the rockets by remote control or a timer because, as you say, counterbattery fire can usually be expected. It just doesn't do much good; the launch hardware is as primitive and disposable as the rockets.

UAVs and other surveillance are more fruitful, but there's less of 'em.
