Ref 16 June article on this topic. Any British engineers listening who build UV lasers.... one million bucks each for this JIN thing - that must be the cost of the laser - it can't be the cost of the caps and charger. Anyway does this seem a good idea? Will a burst of 30mm cannon fire set off an IED reliably? Why use lightning? Some more questions...Are we talking 20kA or 200kA as a peak current. I think shock pressure scales as current squared. Rise time typiclly 6.4 microseconds? or does it need to be less? The shock force is concentrated over a smaller area the shorter the rise time. Does the JIN blank out comms in the local area when charging? Does it need one of those warlock things incoporated? Finally what is the areal density of armour to withstand blast and fragments from buried 155m arty shell going off 5m/15ft away? Will 6mm Dura-Al (backed with dry woven Glass) do the job?

"where can one go to discuss this tech at an acceptable level and in a acceptable format. + who is the threat if the chinese and russians are already their taking pictures." certainly my view and associated experience is that if you approach the right people (in your case MOD), if they see the merits of what you are trying to achieve, the you will get access to peers in tha technology. You'll be surprised at what may be happening outside of the public arena.

gf0012-aust - No backing for generator development aimed at this "market" forcoming from my managers. However we recently got our MoD contract renewed and pot of money available for additional tasks beyond those already assigned to us. I need to put a more concrete idea to the management. All of our present contacts in MoD DPA are either Air or WMD. gf0012-aust Perhaps you could arrange for a UK contact who engages in similar "Esoteric" past times to meet me? QinetiQ are now private (owned my Carlyle Group and UK gov) and a direct competitor to us in many areas..... so selling colaboration with them to management may be problematic....True MoD would be better. I prefer to meet on UK MoD site (perhaps in a bar?). Those once bona fides are checked I am sure people could come to our Lab if required. I used to attend Bletchley TA centre (mid 1990's), I was a young not very adept techie not a Operator. Perhaps we could meet there if it OK with the OC. Contact through jin_bottle@hotmail.co.uk. Once we make contact I propose we liase and exchange DPA funding authority contacts details before meeting to establish I am bona fide (and Vice Versa :>) + check with OC of 1 Sigs if required.
