Subject: Decoding FCS MGV features
afrc    7/17/2008 6:55:20 PM
I am having problems trying to figure out all new things for MGV vehicles. Maybe someone knows more than me?

link

1) What is ANS MMW Radar in the front of the vehicle? What is it used for? Is it to identify mines?

2) ANS Imaging Perceprion Module IPM (2X) on the side?

3) Autonomous Navigation System (ANS) LADAR Imaging Perception Module LIPM (2X) in the front?

4) Multi-Function RF (MFRF) Radar Antenna (4X)? It says that this and Medium Range EO IR sensor are used for surveillance and targeting. I wonder what is the range of these sensors, as MRM-KE/CE projectiles have a range of over 8km.

5) What will MGV have for the engine? Initially I read that they were going to use LV50-2 turbine engine and then I read that they are going to use 5R 890 diesel engine. What are the specs for it? I don't see much info about it. Why did they choose 890 anyway, as it looks like LV50 had better power-to-weight ratio AFAIK?

6) What will be there for armor? I assume some kind of reactive armor and active protection system. Perhaps modular armor? I assume MCS/XM1202 will have more armor than NLOS-C. Hard to find the details though.

7) I can't find if it is going to have laser warning/IR suppression system like Russian tanks. It should not be very difficult to install and with weaker armor of MGV it might be quite useful.

What are other features of MGV worth mentioning? I understand all the communication equipment, but what else is there to know? It looks like a cool idea overall and I hope it works as well as it looks.
