CM32 8x8 IFV with unknown type of remote gun turret. Work in progress. ROCA wants to buy 700 of these initially. First batallion size unit is under tactical evaluation. The chasis designed by Irish engineers and was based on the same design adopted by Singaporeans.

Sorry for the distracting joke. But, seriously, pintle mount on Bradley is not very useful. There are an Mk. 242 25mm chaingun and a M240 coaxial MG in the turret, and, unlike tankers, there are six bad_ss infantrymen in the cabin. A pintle mount M2 won't add much firepower. Also, there are many add-ons to Bradley in Iraq. One of them is a ball-shape top camouflage tent to hide the TC and gunner from sniper fire.

how about changing out the coax 240 on the Bradley for a 50. cal like they are doing on some of the Abrams, then adding a m-249 or m-240 on the commanders hatch of the Bradley. or put the 240 on a crows system for urban war so two weapons can be fired at two different targets.. especially if your traveling down narrow streets.. what do you think, you could even have it hooked up so that the squad leader in the back could operate it if the commander is busy..

What would be the advantage to a .50 cal co-ax on a Bradley?
If you need something heavier, or longer ranged, than 7.62, there is a perfectly good 25mm M242 right there, with two ammo feeds available.  Given the current level of fighting over there, I can't imagine that there would that much need for anything above 7.62.

Otherwise, it is better to use the 7.62, since you can carry much more ammunition for it, and combat often takes place inside its effective range.  .50 cal ammo may be smaller than 25mm, but it is still much larger than 7.62... There is a valid need for a suppressive weapon that you can shoot all day long and not have to worry (as much) about ammunition, and the M240 fulfills that role quite nicely.

Besides, the M2's that my unit had were complete junk.  The M240's were newer, simple to use and maintain, and much more reliable...

Ever benn IN a Bradley turret?

Not enough room for starters.

The plenum chamber which holds the M240B does not have enough room to take a .50 caliber.  Plus time and cost to mod the M2 turret would not get enough trade off value.

Need something which needs a .50 caliber?  Hit it with 25MM.

BAE systems announced a plan to upgrade its CIV on the m2a2 and m2a3 by adding a mounting bracket, AT THE REQUEST OF BRADLEY CREW MEMBERS, that fits on the CIV. It will be capable of mounting a m-249 and will give the commander a secondary platform to fire upwards and in tight quarters. I saw a picture of it but, I don't know how to put it on this forum.

Commanders Light Automatic Weapon

The Commanders Light Automatic Weapon (CLAW) provides a rapid-response, self-defense weapon to the A3 Bradley Commander.

CLAW is an M-249, 5.56mm Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) mounted directly to the Bradley A3 Commander's Independent Viewer (CIV). The CLAW points wherever the commander is looking with the CIV, with 360-degree azimuth and -20º to +60º elevation coverage, and is pointed and fired from under armor by the existing commander's hand control.

The Bradley fire control provides fire inhibits for no-fire zones, normal safe/arm functions and an automated load/stow position for rapid ammo reloading and charging.

The system is independent of the turret or main gun orientation and the mount permits the SAW to fire from the standard 200-round disposable drum. A "soft recoil" mount provides a stable CIV image while firing. The CLAW design provides a crew-installable accessory kit after a minor CIV field modification. An adapter kit permits the mounting of an M231 weapon in place of the M249 SAW.
