are you telling that PLA finest who couldn't pass a simple lesson in geography is better trained than French and German tank crews ? If that is the case then perhaps we all have to sent our soldiers, sailors, and airmen to take a course in water buffalo baby sitting before we let them pass basic training.

Give me a break Jacques. I guess even though the PLA have more money and reasources to use that the French army they are still a bunch of nincompoops. Well im not going to go into that any further. Teja; according to info I have accumulated the Indian tank force looks like this (roughly once some orders are done): 2000 Vijataya (i think that's how it's spelt)1000 active, 1000 in storage(basically a beefed up Leopard one); 310 T90s and most likely to be manufactured in the future; 2000 T72, 1100 active, 900 in storage; 125 Arjun, may not be manufactured further; 900 T55, 700 active 200 in reserve. Pakistan fields: M47 15; M48 250; T59 1300; T69 250; T85II 200; T80UD 300. Pakistan just barely has a few more high quality tanks but is outmatched by both the overall effectiveness of Indian armor and their shear number; about 5335 vs 2320. They are hoping that the Al Khalid will serve as an Abrams equivelent or near equivelent in order to even out the odds some more. Who knows they might get pretty close. If the Indian Arjun has only 770 RHA equivelent vs HEAT and it is suseptable to the Chinese Red Arrow then they might be defeated by entirely non tank composed forces. We still don't have any solid facts on what the Al Khalid could do either though. The Chinese T98 has great laser defensive systems but it should also be remembered that it is about 10% inferior to western models in first-hit-strike capability; it's claim to fame is it's power.

Thanks Jigoku-Aisatsu for your update on Al Khalid. You are right that the Indians have a big advantage not just in terms of numbers but also in terms of the quality of equipment. In my opinion in a conflict situation Pakistan would be deploying its forces in a defensive position and has accordingly invested in anti tank equipment. Red Arrow as u mentioned but apart from it they boost TOWS and a locally developed portable anti tank missile called Bakhtar Shiken or tank buster. They are acquiring around 60 more Cobra gunships which are primarily tank hunters. Yes tanks like T-80 UD and AlKhalid would have a aggressive role and would be used to penetrate in Indian territory rather than being deployed in defensive position. The training level of the tank crews of both the countries remains question mark.

jacques    My appology to Jigoku-Aisatsu   12/5/2003 6:59:54 AM
I didn't mean to offend any Chinese posters except for Hong Xing. He pissed me off for omitting the LECLER on purpose while listing other inferior tanks as top ten. Everybody can build tanks to their liking. They might not be good at it but there will always be room to improve. Someday Russians, Chineses, Indians, Pakistans, and even Bangladeshs will be able to make tanks comparable to other western tanks.

With a name like Jigoku-Aisatsu he is probably Japanese. Now you have insulted him by calling him Chinese. LOL.

1.M1a2 The m1a2 is a very good all around tank, proving itself in 2 wars which the Leo can not. 2.Leo 2 Its a high rated tank, but its never been tested untill then it really cant be rated. 3.Merkava 4 Awsome tank proving itself in battle over the years. 4.Challenger 2 Good all around tank has issues tho in the war in iraq it doesnt work well in desert. Over 60% of all tanks in iraq are ground and cant run. 5.Cleclerc Its it true it has more reverse gears then forward ;). It hasnt been tested in combat so it really cant be rated.

I like asian in general. They have quite an impressive history and lots of accomplishments. They have lots to be proud about themselves. I don't understand why some of them have an inferiority complex. Claiming chinese, indian, and pakistanese tanks to be superior than the LECLERC is nonsense. Their techonolgy is cheaper but not better. If they want to bolster their armor formations France will be more than happy to do business with them. France weapons systems are the best out there; performance, reliability , supportability, and scaleability. There is no such thing as an unhappy client when it comes to French products.
