Subject: Stryker Platoon medic and FO
PredatorDrone    5/2/2005 8:19:44 PM
Is there room in the Stryker platoon for an attached medic and FO? By my count all seats are taken. Can the Stryker seat more than 9, or have the medic and FO been left behind?

The medic and FO rode with my platoons for the 18 months in command, and I was usually at 100% fully manned or close while in the field and in Iraq. Additionally, we usually had attachments in Iraq that I would send down to the platoons (civil affairs, translators, tactical HUMINT teams, linguists, media, BN sniper team(s)), although I wasn't at full strength until just before I handed over the guidon. While wearing body armor it can be a very tight fit, but with soldiers in the hatch providing 360 security, you open up some space so it is not as tight.

I never used my command HMMWV, so they used my hummer in garrison for getting to/from ranges and for the initial part of their infil to get 4-6km from an OBJ if the terrain supported a mounted infil and placing the vehicle into a hide. We made the decision not to deploy my HMMWV to Iraq and so they rode with a platoon, myself, or my XO's Stryker depending on the mission.
