You forgot the best: Leopard2-A6-EX ;) ... btw how many threads with this theme did we have ? 100 ... ? It was always the same conclusion that there is no real indication and that there are too many differend areas where some tanks have benefits or deficits that you cant tell which one is really the best.

Yeah, there is the LeClerc as well. Each tank has its own mission. The Merkava is designed for defense, as in fighting in the Golan Heights or in Gaza. The Leopard II, Challenger II, M1 and LeClerc were all designed for fighting in a small part of Germany known as the Fulda Gap. Same with the earlier Russian T-72/80s. Russian tanks are evident of different philosophies involving modern warfare and armored tactics. Perhaps the best way to judge the "best" MBT would be the tank that is the best at its job, or the most versatile.

That's an idea: "Reality test" on reality TV.

I would say that the polish PT-91M is the best tank in the world.

And i would say that a upgraded T-72 is today, and if it would be good the poles wouldnt buy German Leopard2-A4 tanks when they could get A-5 or A-6 versions ...

Abrams, no question, and there is not one russian T-series tanks that can compete with an M1-A2

Well this is again a thread which leads in arguments of style 'which is a better gun, automatic pistol or machine gun'. Developed for completely different purposes, sharing very little common, how can we compare them? They both kill, but do it in such a differing fashion and under such differing circumstances that they never can be truly compared.

The Eytie Tankette of WW2 rocked bells. Failing that the polish TK. Way to go Idaho!

I have to agree with MikkoL and everyone else who pointed out the fact that this topic is utterly apples and oranges. In my opinion, the differences between the top 4-5 designs out there are vanishingly remote, in any case.

To Horse Soldier: I agree: The ad substance to my claim, that technological development (made elsewhere) is levelling off.

If you d aguys had any intelligence then you would know that the German Leopard 2 A-6 tank is the by far most superior tank in the world.

>>If you d aguys had any intelligence then you would know that the German Leopard 2 A-6 tank is the by far most superior tank in the world.<< Au contraire mon frere -- I am of the opinion that anyone who claims the Leo 2A6 is "by far" the most superior tank in the world knows vanishingly little about tanks, and most definitely is not one to dash about importuning the intelligence level of others without attending to the beam in their own eye. Leo 2A6 is an excellent design, and up there in the top three or four, but "by far" superior to such other worthies as the M1A2SEP, Challenger 2, Merkava Mk. 4? . . . in absolutely certain terms "nope." If you don't agree, please feel free to support your assertion with facts -- something a bit more than "armor: soooo much better than the Challenger 2" or whatever. Let's see some empirical numbers to support the "by far" level of superiority you suggest. Examples of things you might cite to support this argument, if you can find them: -- Details of Leo 2A6's power to weight ratio advantage vis a vis other tanks (if it exists) -- Same relative status of armor protection. Again, the "by far" superior tank better have "by far" superior protection. Not just a smidge better, certainly not "about the same" and I would dare insist that it not be, gasp, inferior to another of our top contenders. "By far" implies a rather substantial gap, now doesn't it? -- Fire control and target acquisition capabilities. See comments on armor protection. -- Armament. Once again, see comments on armor protection. etc. The trick is, before you go spouting unsupported pet theories, is to be able to back them up with something besides "um, because I said so." Whether you want to lay it all out initially, or keep it hidden behind your back to trump those who call you bluff is all your business, but I'm personally eagerly looking forward to your presentation.

Canadian Leopard 1A5 believe it or not beat British Challenger, M1a2, and Merkava in a NATO field exercise. I found it funny when I heard about that. Not sure if its true though can someone confirm this.
