Subject: Carrier in the Persian Gulf
macawman    8/25/2002 1:03:10 PM
A carrier did move into the Persian Gulf during Desert Shield, Sept 90. I thought the reason was to hold Saddam''s Army in Kuwait. That would have only made sense if Saddam''s Intelligence knew that the carrier was in the Gulf. The planes from the carrier groups could have easily operated from the Arabian Sea.
So it is a mystery why a US carrier would venture into channel that narrows to 5 miles wide and has a typical depth of 90 feet. Anyone have any answers?
