Subject: RE:Yes, I can see the usefulness Full Auto has in MOUT situations, too

Even when involved in engaging targets at almost contact distane, full auto is/should be rarely used. That is the rhelm of controlled pairs, double taps, and bursts. Very rare is the case that I can see where full auto brings about results any better than any of the above. I see it as a good option to keep on the selector, but one that's rarely needed.

Swinging the selector all the way over to full-auto isnt the end all be all of fighting in urban areas. Aside from actually making entrance inside of contested buildings, the targets you'll find yourself engaging are targets that require more precise aimed fire than wooded/jungle/etc type terrain. As far as I'm concerned, a frag is a far better way to clear out a room than running in spraying and praying.

Also, cover and concealment are much more available to your adversary in urban areas. This is one of the reasons for the need for highly accurate aimed fire against partially or largely hidden targets. But it also reintroduces the need for rounds that will defeat not just concealment, but light cover with relative ease. That takes you back around to argueing for 7.62Nato class rounds as GOP stated.

I think overall its a very thin line of compromise, that would best be served by not settling on one weapon trying to fill all roles.
