A thinktank for the goverment of China created this rank of the most powerful countries. This was not just some random person on the internet, an actuall proffesional for the goverment decided this.

World's most powerful nations (ranked according to GDP, military power, diplomacy, capital strength, technological power, natural resources, human resources, government coordination and control capability, information and communication)

2) Britain - 65.04
3) Russia - 63.03

Interesting. As usual the PRCs got it mostly wrong. Germany is stronger, France is weaker China is exaggerated and the value for Japan and for India is totally incorrect.

This depends on a lot of factors. As the founder of this site (I think) once pointed out, there are only three countries now that can unilaterally project force globally (America, Britain, and France), and only one of them that can do so at any level above expeditionary force. On that scale, there are only three countries to rank. However, from a defensive standpoint, a country like China is actually stronger than any single state in Europe, and even India probably is. Maybe the only way to really list them is by offensive, and defensive capacity. Then there's latent capacity, which would propel a country like Japan past any in Europe, and into the #2 offensive position, with Germany able to leapfrog France and Britain as well. Just as important as anything else is the "paper tiger" factor. How strong is the public's stomach? And how strong is the leadership's will, or ability, to go against public sentiment? How tough can the military get with the enemy without the media and human rights groups screaming that there are abuses? All Western nations weaken noticeably when that's factored in.

I guess Germany is the counry with the biggest "paper tiger" factor in Europe, let alone the reserve:

Every conscript which has served at least a day in the Bundeswehr... is a reservist, unless he is declared ineligible for military service or has made a claim of conscientious objection.... Soldiers of enlisted ranks with a limited contract (either 4, 8 or 12 years) or professional soldiers, who have filled their tour of duty, are likewise part of the reserve. This is also the case for women, but on the basis of the Soldatengesetz (Eng: Soldier Bill), not the Wehrpflichtgesetz (Conscription Bill). Every soldier follows his rank with the initials "d.R." ("der Reserve" - "the reserve"). So it does not affect whether the soldier is called up, placed in an inactive formation, or not. Only professional soldiers use the appellation "a.D. d.R" ("außer Dienst / der Reserve" - "out of service / reserve") after the end of their service. All others (part-time soldiers and conscripts) strictly use "d.R." until the end of their lives.
Reservists are an integral part of the Bundeswehr. They are essential for the capability of the armed forces in time of war.
Reservists can be active in the Bundeswehr in addition to their mandatory service. This mostly happens through (mostly voluntarily) military exercises or official events. Apart from that the Bundeswehr organises reservist unions as particularly representative supporting organisations of "voluntarily reservist work".

Eligibility for compulsory military service for soldiers and other servicemen of low rank ends at the end of the 45th year of age. Thereafter the conscript is no longer part of the reserve. Despite that the appellations "a.D." and/or "d.R." may still be used. Conscription for under-officers and officers lasts until the 60th year of age. Until the 32nd year of age every conscript is subject to military inspection.

Recognised conscientious objectors, who have competed their civil service, are nonetheless part of the reserve and in the event of war will be given a suitable non-combatant role outside the Bundeswehr, such as emergency medical services, clearing debris or minesweeping.

All conscripts who have not done their service belong to the Ersatzreserve (replacement reserve).

Of course the active reserve which trains regularly and is going on foreign missions is much smaller (35.000 for the Army, that would be the equivalent to the US National Guard) But theoretically, I estimated that at the current rate of 60.000 Soldiers going through conscription each year, the theoretical number of German Reserves which could be called up stands somewhere between 8 - 10 million. ( 10 million would really mean total mobilisation, "Letztes Aufgebot" was the term in 1945 for that. - every former conscript from 18 - 60 called up)

I would give the "Peoples stomach" award to Britain though ... unless German Mainland is really threatened which it is not at the moment.

as the tittle does not specify in what you realy mean bassing it on a mix of economic, military, capability on sustainability, resources, population and education on that population. Countries like Isriel and South Korea are over rated for with out forign support would colapes very quickly. Even China and India gaining ground very fast are still reliant on western money to buy the goods of wich they vastley produce for export. Sleeper countries with week armies but massive economies and recourses would convert very quickly in a hostal world, Germany, Japan, Canada and Australia. Saying the poop realy hit the fan and evry country was completly on its own the list would look like this. 1 USA 2 Russia 3 China 4 Germany 5 UK 6 France 7 Japan 8 Canada 9 Italy 10 Australia

If Russia, Sadia Arabia, and Canada didnt exist neither would 91% of the worlds oil supply.

Yeah i agree, why is india and pakistan above the UK and France??

India will be like no. 2 but for a long time they are a devolping country and i dont even know why pakistan is in there it should go:
