| I think Shaka would have been happier in the days of brestplates and cavalry sabres.
I dunno Shaka - today you have a whole lot of area and not a lot of troops to fill it.. For instance how many units of Dragoons would you need to protect a 200 mile supply line? How much time would you give them to get on the scene before the "support" elements got eaten by the bad guys? What if the bad guys did sneak an armored maneuver unit behind the lines? They could be too close for airsupport (trust me - if I was a bad guy against the U.S. - the first thing I'd want to do is get in close to reduce all those adavantages the U.S. has) and then when the light dragoons showed up and found they were facing (too use your style) heavy dragoons and guards grenadiers - you'd have to send more troops to rescue the rescuers.
I think with the size of todays military you are going to have to pick one of two or three not so great choices. Or just pick really small countries to invade.
1) If you want your supplies to get to your batallion - you are going to have to detail out a platoon or two of troops - to include mech / armor.
2) You advance at a slower pace so can better reduce the enemy troops in your line of advance
3) Dare I say it.. make the supply guys go the firing range more than once a year and give them some AT ability.
4) (My Patton answer to the problem) Attack to somewhere that you can be resupplied at with out worrying whats behind you. (Airfields - Harbors - etc.) |
