Subject: Marine combat tactics
Gman    2/25/2005 1:17:37 PM
Hey guys I'm tryin' to write a short story and I want to make as realalistic as possible, and I'd like to get a good feel for troop movements and operations (if it isn't classified), to make it very realalistic and interesting as possible. I especially would like to know about marine tactics, but I would like everything I can get my hands on. If y'all could post them up in writing or with a link to a site I'd appretiate it. Thx guys.

To read Tom Clancy's "Marines" may help you.

Here is another source: https://www.doctrine.usmc.mil/aspweb/ground-ops.asp This will provide you with all of the USMC warfighting/reference publications for ground combat.

Gman - if you have any specific questions, give me a shout. I was a Marine Rifle Platoon Commander a number of years ago. I also was a LAR platoon commander during OIF I.

Check out www.globalsecurity.org - you'll find some good background info on ops in Iraq and Afghanistan, which should help out.

Google the Marines Fallujah after action report. There is a post on strategypage.com here somewhere that has a link. Very informative. It's great that hard earned experience is being shared and not lost.
