Subject: Furthest Recorded Sniper Kill
clarkey188    2/18/2004 3:56:11 AM
Is there a record for the furthest sniper kill.
I'm a keen rough/target rifle shooter and was reading in one of my magazines about a new .338 rifle (I think it was .338)
They were saying it has the record for the furthest kill and it was by a Canadian in Afghanistan at a distance of over 1mile.
Is this true can anyone verify this. I cannot remember wich one it was in and have been trying to find it again. If so that's some shooting considering the distance/weather/light, wind and everything that can have an effect on the accuracy of the shot.

NightOwl where do you get your information budd your about three years behind, as of today the farthest RECORDED military kill was Former Canadian Forces Sniper Rob Furlong. He hit three targets at 2,430m, during Opperation Anaconda. The shots were taken with a 50. caliber rifle.

The only issue with this shot, is the word recorded, anyone who is in any sort of military role should understand why, shooting at over a mile probably puts you somewhere you really dont want to go to RECORD your kill.

If i ever manage to pass the canadian sniper training and have any opportunity to make a shot at such a distance, trust me when i say that seing the outline fall from my optics will be the only record i will ever need.
