Subject: Anti-Infantry Weapons

I'm designing a wargame (information below) and I'm struggling with several issues which I'm going to post seperately in the appropriate forums.

My question here concerns the modeling of anti-infantry weapons.

What is the relative effectiveness of such weapons? How do the following compare with one another:

light (7.62) machine gun
heavy (50cal) machine gun
direct fire gun (e.g. 105mm tank gun)
indirect fire mortars and howitzers

What is the effect of range? Does range affect all weapons alike or some weapons (e.g. machine guns) and not others (e.g. mortars)?

("How to Make War" is a DIY project for now, you can get everything you need at the Armchair Brigade website.)
