A Greek firm has created a paint that can reduce the thermal signature (what infrared or thermal sensors work with) by fifty percent. It does this by reducing the surface temperature by up to 65 percent. This is particularly useful for vehicles operating at night, particularly armored vehicles. While the paint does not make a vehicle invisible to heat sensors, it does provide a less clear image. This makes it difficult to identify the vehicle at long ranges, or to get a good shot at the vehicle. The paint also works on helicopters, but is not expected to be as effective on jets (because at high speed, much heat is generated on the outside of the airplane, by the rapid movement through the air.)
