Subject: RE:Ship Names- Heads of State, States/Counties, Cities and the alphabet

I'm not sure something can be said to be a name reminiscent of a particular class when it has only been used on that class once before.

There has only ever been one carrier Argus, Courageous, Glorious, Furious, Albion. Indeed, at least Albion had been a battleship name before that.

Only Eagle, Ark Royal and Hermes are oft-repeated carrier names (Ark Royal most times) and these have all been used within recent memory.

Where is the issue with giving the Invincibles battlecruiser names, they are proud, capital ships and it's not likely that there will be any more battlecruisers!

Victorious was a carrier in WWII.

Sub sequence is Oberon Porpoise Conquerer Renown Swiftsure Trafalgar Upholder Vanguard A-boats.

Looks pretty alphabetical to me, C aside! Dreadnought I'm not counting seeing as she was a stand-alone experimental design, something the name Dreadnought is reserved for.

My favourite names are actually the escort carrier names now used for the P2000 patrol boats, they sound like Santa's raindeer: Archer, Dasher, Blazer, Ranger, Trumpeter, Raider, Tracker, Puncher, Biter, Smiter, Pursuer...
