December 26, 2009: Kidnappings of aid workers are growing in Africa. Currently, a dozen are being held for ransom in Africa. This is somewhat overshadowed by the 230 sailors being held by Somali pirates, along with their ships. The increase in kidnappings is largely due to the fact that Western countries rarely use force to recover the captives, and usually pay large ransoms.
