Surface Forces: Israeli Boats Patrol The Indian Coast
Next Article → ELECTRONIC WEAPONS: The Wonder Wall Around Arabia

July 6, 2009: Sri Lanka is buying six Israeli Super Dvora Mk III patrol boats. This model first entered service five years ago, and have been a great success. The 86 foot boats can operate in as little as four feet of water, thus they are useful for landing, or picking up, commandos. The boats are armed with a multibarrel 20mm cannon, or a single barrel 25-30mm cannon and a 40mm automatic grenade launcher. There is a crew of nine. The 70 ton boats can sprint to over 90 kilometers an hour, and have a max range (depending on cruising speed) of 1,800 kilometers. Most patrols are about 12 hours, but the boats can stay out three times longer if necessary. The propulsion system includes water jets, providing enormous maneuverability. This, and the high speed, enables the boats to catch smugglers or terrorists riding in speed boats. Electronics include radar, radio and GPS. These boats will mostly be used to prevent smuggling between India and Sri Lanka.

This is a good idea. Sri Lanka is an Island and needs to protect it's coastline which is fairly extensive.  Prevention of illegal foreign shipping, Terrorists and smugglers from entering the Territorial waters is of prime importance to the country.  Many Western powers will try to land infiltrators and commandos to destabilize the country as they would like to have a government in power which they can control.  The GOSL will have to be alert to this threat.  Most bankrupt western powers will definitely still try to exploit the country if they can.  They play this game all over the world.  It is the livlihood of capitalism.  They will also have to be on the lookout for the nefarious activities of our National Traitor Ranil Wickremasinghe who will try to do what happened in Iran to overthrow the government.  This is the only option open to him and right now he is in UK, probably talking to the British.

Not just Western powers... SL has a very long history of external influence dating back to the Chinese in the early 15th century...

Congrats to SL for getting new fighting ships... when will you get new vessels to deliver humanitarian support?

What exactly does Sri Lanka have that anybody would what?
Poverty? Check. But who wants it?
Perpetual Strife? Check. Not all that desirable a good.
Paranoia? Double-check. Plenty of that around, not really an export candidate.
Me Lucky Charms? They may be magically delicious, but they r not Sri Lankan.
Why would the evil nefarious west want to bother with Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka DOES have a REBEL problem that drives a need for tight borders.

Ceylon/Sri Lanka has nothing to fear from the cowardly Western governments of Europe obsessed with humanism now that SR has won the war, though interference from India, China and Western NGOs and other leftists will prove a danger. And Europe is not bankrupt.

Take it from me, I know the West. Btw., you might have an ally in the USA and some conservative European nations. Be wary of South America, they often tolerate or even work with terrorists.

PS. You are guilty of accusing the West of what id does not do. Their sins are of a different kind.
Do remember you skepticism though, the world is so deeply flawed.

Congratulation to SL on the acquisations. They would assist in ensuring that no resurgence of LTTE takes place.
