Retired Soviet Admiral Vitaly Agafonov has confirmed that the Soviet submarines in the Atlantic during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis each carried one torpedo with a nuclear warhead. How effective these would have been, and whether they could have gotten these weapons within range of US warships, will never be known.--Stephen V Cole
