The Pentagon has temporarily put a halt to "outreach" programs that allow civilians to fire military weapons or ride in military vehicles. The ban will probably be modified after a safety review, preventing civilians from operating the controls of military systems but allowing them to ride in vehicles or use some training equipment. The guidelines seem likely to come down to civilians will not be put into positions where their actions could injure other civilians.--Stephen V Cole
