As of the first of this year, Germany will allow women to enlist and train for duty in combat units. Women were allowed to join in 1975 but have been limited to medical units and military bands. Women can now serve in any German military job except on submarine crews, where there simply is not enough space to allow women any privacy.--Stephen V Cole
