Israel Spying On America Again?

October 21, 2009: An American scientist, Stewart Nozette, with access to the details of much U.S. military technology, was recently arrested and charged with trying to sell classified data to Israel. In this case, Israel was not involved, as the "Israeli agent" was an FBI agent pretending to be one. Nozette had been under suspicion of selling American secrets overseas, and had mentioned to a colleague that if the U.S. government ever tried to prosecute him, he would flee to Israel and "tell them everything" he knew about classified U.S. technology.

Israel has long spied on the U.S., and this came to a head in the 1980s when U.S. government employee Jonathan Pollard was convicted of passing large quantities of American secrets to Israel. Some of this stuff was later sold or traded to other foreign nations by Israel. Pollard is serving a life sentence, and Israel is constantly trying to get him freed. As a result of the Pollard case, Israel promised to stop spying on the U.S. But American intelligence agencies believe that Israeli espionage operations against the U.S.  have not stopped, but have just become far more discreet.

Ezekiel    Question of entrapment   10/21/2009 9:36:56 AM
If one takes the time to read the charges one see's that the FBI skirted the line between undercover ops and entrapment.

as we see the Aipac case proves, the court room will show the legitimcay of the case.

Pollard never got a trial, due to plea agreement which was discarded after, and he was never charged as a traitor, but was given life none the less.

My first though on hearing about this was that it sounded a lot like entrapment, though the trial will bring that to light.

If I recall correctly, the Pollard plea agreement was discarded after he violated its terms by repeatedly talking to the media.

Is the AIPAC case you refer to the Rosen/Weisman case or the Franklin case?

I respectfully disagree with the derisive title of this story  "....again?"

Aside from the seeming entrapment discussed by posters above, this should be viewed within the context of the Obama administration putting more and more of a squeeze on Israel. The scientist story....the revocation of work permits for Israeli students who work summer jobs in US malls...the not so subtle leaks of memos describing Obama as being 'disgusted' with Israel .....these are all diplomatic, political and even cultural choke points, and  this is just one more pressure point. Obama wants his message to Israel to be unequivocal: play ball our way or we'll step up the heat on the Jewish state big time.
