Russia has shown renewed interest in the Yak-130 advanced trainer, and wants to develop a light combat variant for use in low-intensity conflicts. The Russian Air Force had initially shown little interest in the Yak-130 because it was a joint project with Aermacchi and used a lot of Italian technology. The Russian Air Force insists that its aircraft be all-Russian manufacture. Stephen V Cole
