Egypt will try to rebuild its domestic aircraft production lines by building Chinese K-8 jet trainers to replace the old trainers it now uses. --Stephen V Cole

Russia is marketing a new fighter radar known as Pharaon. This is a multi-function X-band radar. It can be used as the nose radar of any fighter, or as the tail cone radar for heavier fighters. It reportedly can scan 70 degrees to either side of the aircraft nose, as well as 70 degrees above and below the horizon. Detection range for an airborne target is listed as 75km. While Russia insists that Pharaon is a new antenna and a new radar, it says that existing Russian-built radars can be fitted with the new antenna to gain increased performance.--Stephen V Cole
