The first flight of the Joint Air to Surface Standoff Missile was conducted in mid-November at White Sands. The missile was launched by an F-16 flying at 15,000 feet and Mach-0.7. The flight lasted 22 minutes and covered 180 miles, during which time the missile climbed, dived, turned, received GPS updates, and landed within 30 feet of the aim point. The operational missile, with a terminal seeker, should have even better accuracy.--Stephen V Cole In recent tests, an F-22 fighter (#4001) was able to successfully mate with the refueling boom of a KC-10 tanker more than 250 times. No fuel was actually transferred at this stage of the testing, which only confirms that the two aircraft are compatible and will not disrupt each other in flight. The F-22 was certified to refuel from KC-135s earlier this year.--Stephen V Cole
