France has purchased $100 million worth of Paveway-2 and Paveway-3 laser-guided bomb kits from the US company Raytheon. Deliveries will begin early in 2000 and be complete by the end of 2001. The kits will convert existing bombs into precision-guided weapons for use by Jaguar, Mirage-F1, Mirage-2000, and Super Etendard aircraft.--Stephen V Cole
Boeing has completed a $474 million project to upgrade the 21 Australian F-111C strike fighters with digital cockpit displays and other avionics improvements. The upgrade will keep the planes in service for another 20 years. The Australians, who face long over water flights for any attempt to project combat power, say that no other aircraft on the market could replace the F-111Cs.--Stephen V Cole
