The African Union is planning, with former Somali army and police commanders, to establish a peacekeeping force to deal with the few clan militias that will resist disarmament once the new peace deal goes into effect later this year. The Somalis being consulted have not taken part in the clan warfare in the last decade, and would provide the liaison between the African peacekeepers and Somalis.
