The US Navy has issued the formal contract for CVN-77, the 10th carrier of the Nimitz class and the first of three "transition" carriers that will put new technology onto the existing Nimitz hull. The superstructure has been redesigned to reduce radar signature and incorporate antennas as built-in structures. The ship will be launched in 2008.--Stephen V Cole
