Warplanes: A Day In the Life

November 7, 2006: With over 150,000 troops in Iraq, what sort of effort is provided by the air forces each day. November 3rd was a typical day, with 33 close air support combat missions flown (by F-16s, F-18s and a at least one heavy bomber). U.S. Air Force and Navy aircraft also flew 14 reconnaissance missions. Air force transports (from the U.S., Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea) flew 140 sorties in and between Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa, moving 350 tons of cargo and 3,410 passengers.
